Introductie nieuwe "vertical search" vacaturebank

Handig!

Alumni program or Boomerang Recruiting

Crisis time, economic downturn is all we hear these days. Many companies are less occupied recruiting and more involved with mobility management in order to make sure the best people are staying at the right place in the organization. Are we still thinking about a future comeback of the market. Preventing real talent from leaving has become a bigger concern these days. Unfortunately not all companies can escape this tycoon and people made redundant seems to be unavoidable. Good employers arrange for outplacement possibilities and redundancy packages, however do they also think about the future? Of course not! That is, I expect that the majority of companies don’t. We are having problems now and so we act accordingly, now. Mostly without thinking about the future or at least not over a term of more than 1 or 2 years. After all there is a crisis going on and it is hectic! Jobs that have to be made redundant within a company in a free-fall economy are like lead in a sinking ship. Clean up now and patch up later.
However it would be wise (of course) to take time and set up a good re-hire or alumni program (a.k.a. ‘boomerang recruitment’). After rain there will be sunshine and the market will make a come back eventually. Whether it will be in 2009, 2010 or even later it does not matter. The past few years most companies have invested in recruiting campagnes and a ‘company brand’ in order to attract most current employees. When companies are now at the eve of massive layoffs or are already in the middle of it, they must consider the wasted money invested in these same employees. A good alumni program can ensure that these investments do not go to waste completely. It gives the opportunity to re-hire employees that have had to leave your company.

What is the purpose of an Alumni program?
This kind of program allows management to consciously think about and consider investments made in employees that will leave the company. The goal is to establish a relationship with these people or better to continue your relationship with these people in order to re-hire them when the time is right. This requires time and effort to set up with quality, however the returns are immediately visible when the market comes back.
The second goal is to keep a positive brand recognition as an employer. Even after it is forced into massive layoffs.
With today’s technology it is easier to set up a kind of program and achieve an ROI. Or even better without the current technology, Social Media, you should not even try. Even you would really like to take this ahead you can set up a website specifically for your company’s alumni and present a full program. This may include:

  • the latest developments of the company

  • the status of the recruitment and hiring policy

  • events at which ex-employees could be involved

  • industrial developments

  • innovations in specific products, industry or business processes, provided this can be release on this format

  • benchmarking and best practices

  • portals with opportunities for updating work experience and education on a personal profile as well as a vacancy overview when you start hiring again.

Other benefits
Many employees remain within the same industry or within the same corporate chain. By maintaining good contacts, these people serve as ambassadors or prospect anchors for your existing business. The creation of a strategic partnerships page within the alumni support program may even give additional benefits.

Key differentiators for success
A few key items of importance in the set up of an Alumni program are:

  • to use technology and social media

  • create a strong business case. It should be an initiative with a business approach (ROI) and not just an interpretation of an HR trend.

  • regularly evaluate on the basis of statistics and key indicators

  • ensure a full program and in depth content for your target group otherwise you are doomed to fail.

As you can tell a farewell does not have to be permanent. With good policies and a structured program it can actually bear fruit. PeopleXS can always give advice or help you develop a plan. If needed in collaboration with one of our communication partners.

PeopleXS Community Live!

The PeopleXS community for recruiters, hr professionals, administrators and application experts, consultants and all who are interested went live. Company blogs, news articles, ideas and idea voting, forums and labs will become available within this community.

Last week during my vacation the community went live. Another community yes, but one that is specifically geared towards PeopleXS. Our customers asked us or this function during our user events. They wanted a place to share ideas on the web and discuss topics within user groups.
Additionally we want to provide a place where transparancy on product management for PeopleXS will be leading. Customer's, the markets and user idea's should be posted here and listed for voting. The best ideas out there will filter to the top and be developed by us. Not a new concepts, but important for the future of PeopleXS. Ofcourse not only the top rated ideas will be developed. We will continue to deploy other customer requests as well and our own strategic product ideas.

Additionally we hope to provide a platform for users and usergroups that allow people to share info and ideas on functionality within the application. Or how challenges during projects were faced and solved, etc. Forums will be introduced later to support this kind of discussion on the web. Ofcourse I will inform you again through this blog and the official PeopleXS blog postings.

What are HR professionals doing in this crisis time?

OK, yesterday an interesting poll and today an even more interesting poll. Not for the sake of polls, but realy because I would like to know if the current market has given HR managers and professionals a different scene to work in. It is crisis left and right, on TV and in the news. With the amount of crisis information out there we would have thought to be hurting bad, since the recruitment market generally takes the first hit during hard times. We are still moving forward. Sure, we hear customers saying they are more careful. So are we. We don't want to be making unwise decisions that can hurt us later. In order to make sure we stay on top of things we have advised some of our customers to prepare for mobility management and outplacement activities. That may be necessary for more customers and prospects in the market So, in order to find out and know where the HR Market is moving to I have set up "an even more important poll". Your feedback vote is much appreciated!

JobSeekers use Social Networks

If you did not know yet, wake up and smell the coffee! Social Networks realy made their breakthrough. In this interesting poll on LinkedIn it also shows as highest ranked job seeking media. Job boards are still close, but I expect the gap to become larger as the number of votes increase. Right now not many people have given their vote yet, so it would be interesting to follow. I will be sure to come back on it when there is some more feedback.

I breathe , so I live”.

Adobe MAX on top of the World!

OK, ok, some of you appearantly are more frequent readers than I thought. So especially for you I am posting another experience I had today. Yes, I have been quite bussy, and have neglected to write on my blog. However if you create the time there is always enough to share on new things happening or new things learned.

Today was the first day at the Adobe MAX Event in Milano. Amazing to see what they came up with for new software technology. The sky seems to be the limit, if there is a limit at all. I realy start wondering when or if this is going to stop. Apart from Salesforce.com and Google, this (meaning Adobe) is one of the worlds most innovative companies, seeing what they come up with. From Pixel Bending on running video presentations to other Flash Player 10 gigs such as bi-directional texting. All on the newest flash player that will soon be launched by adobe.

Pixel bending you are saying?
Yes Pixel Bending. I don't believe I actually understand what it means and that I am actually using the word. It is a bit hard to explain so I wish I could show you because it realy looks cool. It basicaly is a playing movie on a moving object. For instance a waving flag. The entire movie waves along. Then when you pick up the corner of the flag and make it smaller or larger, the actual movie playing continues to play and the resize of the film happens without a problem continuing the wave as well.

AIR
Adobe AIR takes these new software applications straight to the desktop or mobile device without a browser. AIR is the browser! Or AIR allowing for Rich Applications that you can resize with your own hands, turn around slide across the screen, just like you can do with an iPhone or HTC Touch Diamond smartphone, etc. You know, like in the last James Bond movie or the Tom Cruise movie from several years ago where he is moving his hands through the air sliding the different files left to right, opening and reviewing them, etc. There are great new appliances you can use these tools for.

Web3.0
Amazing new gadgets with tools of the future were presented as well. Just imagin' pointing your phone to a beamer and throwing a picture from your phone to the beamer with one sliding move from a finger. Or when turning around and pointing to a laptop device or TV, wireless connecting, and by the same finger move, throwing the picture onto the laptop. You don't understand, me neither, but the tecnology works just like that. Or walking around in a street where you see interesting things online or presented in some electronic way. Just point your phone to it, connect, and make a sliding pull move with your finger on the phone screen, and the picture will be tagged and dragged onto your phone (if allowed for sharing). And not just pictures, you can do the same with music, video and other presentation types. Just imagine what we can do with all this technology for our customers and recruiters. I think we need a whole new battery of developers to start deploying this.

I am probably starting to bore you by now. On another note then... it's also amazing to see so many 'code monkeys' and 'programming freaks' together! It is a different kind of breed, but I am hanging in there and am enjoying what I see ;-) Most of these guys realy know there stuff ... I am deeply impressed! And I don't understand one thing about it! I am picking up many new idea's though and am creating new creativity for PeopleXS, so the fruits are already visible!

One last thing to share then. A fun new gadget to manage your incoming desktop publications from the different publishers out there. It avoids email clutter and dozens of spam mails or social network updates, try it out, it should be free as soon as available. For suppliers it is a great tool for helping customers come back to your website as well, see wave.adobe.com.
